Summary: Amazing story of a fighting unit
Comment: I implore everyone who served in the RLI to get a copy of The Saints. You have a lot to be proud of, and this book is a record of your courage and skill.
For soldiers of the modern era, there is much to consider here. For troops with the courage and aggression to employ such confrontational tactics, this book illustrates clearly what fast moving small deployments can achieve. The caveat is that such aggression attracts casualties, and today's politicians struggle to find the courage of their shaky convictions required to justify the casualties. The men of the RLI believed in what they were fighting for (as did the rest of the excellent Rhodesian war effort). The RLI's lethal aggression ensured their enemies didn't survive to fight another day.
What a pity the British imposed Mugabe upon that once bountiful land. Lord Carrington and his duplicitous, double dealing cronies have much to answer for in terms of modern Zimbabwean misery.

Summary: If only the world understood
Comment: Excellent book describing the exploits of one of the world's most dedicated and effective fighting units. Rhodesia was once known as the bread-basket of Africa. Reading this book now, 30 years on, and seeing what misery and destruction has been brought to that wonderful country by those that the RLI were fighting, is terribly saddening. The naiveté and ignorance shown by the west in their isolation of the country at that time, eventually caused Rhodesia to fall. The RLI won all their battles, but the West lost them the war. The book is a poignant reminder that so-called "do-gooders" often fail, in a spectacular manner, to do anything of the sort. The book sticks to the facts and the reader automatically sees the courage, conviction and and belief shown by young men striving to maintain civilisation and decency.

Summary: Excellent insightful stuff
Comment: Great book - I think the chap who said something to the effect of - "When the shooting starts why do they run towards the enemy, don't they know that bullets can kill?" Sums it up best. Incredible.

Summary: Superb
Comment: Excellent book packed with photos, diagrams and personal histories.I was truly amazed with the exploits of these soldiers. The R.L.I faced overwhelming odds and came through the toughest of tasks . Anybody who served in the R.L.I should be justly proud. Most combat units of the world seem soft compared to these chaps! Thanks for the book Alex Binda and Chris Cocks
